The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari before an accountability court in a case pertaining to money laundering through fake accounts case.
The former president was brought before the court amid high security. Ahead of their leader’s appearance before the court, PPP leaders were gathered to welcome him. During the hearing today, the bureau requested a 14-day extension.
However, the accountability court turned down the request and instead extended the remand by 11 days, local media reported.
The former president was arrested by NAB on June 10 following the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail by the Islamabad High Court in the fake bank accounts case. A 15-member NAB team arrived at Zardari House in Islamabad to arrest him.
The accountability court Judge Arshad Malik had then granted the bureau an 11-day physical remand of the PPP leader.
