ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has announced the formal launch of the nationwide measles-rubella and polio vaccination campaign across the country from November 17 to 29.
According to the National EOC, 35.4 million children will be vaccinated against measles and rubella during the campaign. In addition, 23.3 million children in 90 high-risk districts across the country will receive oral polio drops this week.
All children aged six months to five years will be administered the measles-rubella vaccine. The vaccines will be available at public health facilities, schools, madrassas, and temporary vaccination centres.
During the national campaign in Punjab, around 6.8 million children will receive polio drops while in Balochistan, 2.246 million children will be vaccinated against polio. In Sindh, more than 8.4 million children will be given polio drops while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5.246 million children will receive polio drops.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, 136,000 children will be administered polio drops while in Islamabad, 461,000 children will receive polio drops.
For the measles-rubella campaign, in Punjab, over 17.3 million children will be vaccinated while in Sindh, more than 8.263 million children will receive the vaccine.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, over 5.988 million children will be vaccinated while in Balochistan, more than 2.73 million children will receive the vaccine.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, over 624,000 children will be vaccinated while in Gilgit-Baltistan, more than 246,000 children will receive the vaccine.In Islamabad, over 225,000 children will be vaccinated.
The National EOC has urged parents to ensure that their children are vaccinated, emphasizing that immunization protects them from measles, rubella, and polio. –Agencies
