ISLAMABAD: The National Skills University(NSU) Islamabad on Monday celebrated World Youth Skills Day 2024, reaffirming its commitment to advancing technical and vocational education in Pakistan and beyond.
Recognized by UNESCO/UNEVOC as an International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, the university marked the occasion under the theme of ‘Youth Skills for Peace and Development’.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of National Skills University Islamabad, the institution has been at the forefront of empowering youth with cutting-edge skills in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and several other contemporary and conventional skills.
Prof. Mukhtar commended the dedication of the university faculty, technologists, and staff for their relentless pursuit of excellence in skills education across the country.
Expressing profound gratitude, Prof. Mukhtar acknowledged the pivotal role of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in strengthening NSU’s infrastructure and global outreach efforts. He particularly highlighted the guidance and support of Mr. Mohyuddin Wani, Federal Secretary of the Education Ministry, in advancing various initiatives to enhance educational standards and promote high-tech skills training.
Reflecting on the significance of World Youth Skills Day, Prof. Mukhtar emphasized the theme “Youth Skills for Peace and Development.” He drew inspiration from a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him, underscoring the importance of creating safe and constructive environments for youth to thrive.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, World Youth Skills Day on July 15 acknowledges the critical role of skills development in preparing young people for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.
This year’s theme underscores the essential contribution of youth in fostering peace, resolving conflicts, and driving sustainable development.
“As we commemorate World Youth Skills Day 2024, we recognize the potential of young people as catalysts for positive change and peacebuilding,” said Prof. Mukhtar adding, “It is imperative to equip them with the skills and opportunities necessary to address global challenges, promote peace, and build resilient communities.”
He said that the National Skills University Islamabad remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing a generation of skilled professionals. These individuals will be equipped to tackle the challenges of the 21st century and contribute to a prosperous and harmonious world, Mukhtar added.
