Lahore: The U19 stars of Pakistan cricket have begun their preparation for the junior world cup in 2022 in West Indies with highly experienced coaches of the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) in Lahore.
The coaching team led by the former off-spinner and head of international player development NHPC, Saqlain Mushtaq are working hard on players’ technique and development. The NHPC coaches also reviewed the first week of the U19 development camp.
Batting coach and former legend Mohammad Yousuf told the use of wooden piece for batsmen. “We are working on their balance and technique. The drills batters are doing on a wooden piece is to align them straight and keep their balance still until the bowler releases the ball,” Yousuf said.
Saqlain revealed that in the first week they assessed players’ various abilities. “We are developing them technically, tactically, physically and guiding them on how to become a world-class player.”
“We are assessing them physically and mentally too. We also gave them physiological lectures as it will allow them to stay positive in challenging situations,” Coordinator NHPC Umar Rasheed.
“It’s important for spinners to stay mentally tough, ability to read pitch, bowling according to the conditions and field positions. We try to guide them through these angles in camp so that they know what to do in match situations,” spin bowling coach Mushtaq said.
