ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry in a video message said no one would be given an NRO during the tenure of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The minister recorded the message following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan of senior PTI leaders during which the political situation in the country was discussed.
“We are seeing there is the talk of an NRO. Imran Khan and PTI have fought against corruption for 22 years. This was not a personal fight, but that of the people of Pakistan. Saying that someone will get NRO is impossible.”
The minister said corruption cases would come to their logical end.
In the meeting, PTI leader expressed reservations on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif’s chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Chaudhry said Sharif was misusing his authority as PAC chairman by attempting to pressurise NAB officials by summoning them.
Chaudhry emphasised that it would be unacceptable for Saad Rafique to join the PAC.
Commenting on the arrest of PTI Punjab minister Aleem Khan, Fawad Chaudhry said Khan’s resignation following his arrest had proven the difference between PTI’s political culture and that of other parties.
“He [Aleem Khan] will face the corruption charges without trying to use the influence of his official position. We think Shehbaz should have the same thought process and leave the PAC chairmanship and face corruption charges.”
