BEIJING: In Xiong’an New Area of North China’s Hebei province, one single card can allow you to do many things, such as taking buses, registering for medical consultations, depositing and withdrawing money at banks, paying for purchases in supermarkets, borrowing books from libraries, and gaining admission to scenic spots.
As the key destination for receiving Beijing’s non-capital functions, Xiong’an has rolled out many policies to ensure relocated people can settle down, stay long-term and thrive. The Xiong’an All-in-One Card serves as a vital tool to deliver such support.
According to local authorities, the card can be used across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region for human resources and social security services, public transport, medical treatment and pharmacy purchases, tourism, cultural activities and more. It is designed to meet residents’ cross-city living demands.
So far, 840,000 cards have been issued, with more than 7 million transactions.
“Despite the rapid development of internet, physical cards remain irreplaceable. For elderly residents who are not good at using smartphones, the card allows them to receive pensions and seek medical care,” Zhang Xu, a project manager from the China Xiong’an Group Digital City Technology Co Ltd, said.
Zhang added the card has 128KB of storage space. Massive data is stored in the Xiong’an Urban Computing Center. When the card is swiped, encrypted keys are used to retrieve data from the center.
It breaks down inter-departmental information barriers and solves the problem of data isolation caused by fragmented administrative functions in traditional cities.
According to Zhang, all sensitive personal data is protected by hardware encryption. The card contains three independent accounts for social security, banking, and transportation, each with a separate password. Meanwhile, the WeChat mini-program of the card distributes coupons covering four major consumption categories such as supermarket shopping and utility bill payment. –The Daily Mail-China Daily news exchange item
