ISLAMABAD: Opposition’s Rahbar Committee has stated it will not deny that it is in contact with the government, adding that the committee still stands by its demand of PM Imran’s resignation and holding new elections.
The press conference came after a high-level meeting of the Rahbar Committee in which members of the PPP, the PML-N, the JUI-F and the ANP participated.
Addressing a press conference along with other leaders of Rehbar committee, he said undemocratic forces are warned against any step. He said opposition is consulting on option of resign from assemblies.
He said options like protest on districts level is under consideration. He said government is running away from its agreement and APC of opposition has
discussed the matters in detail today. He said the tone of PM and Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak is not good, adding that we are democratic people and ready
to hold negotiations. He said we will decide whether to move towards D-Chowk or not.
He said opposition demands for re-elections without Army’s cover.
JUI-F leader Akram Durrani said that the committee pondered over the issue of future strategy and demand for PM Imran’s resignation in the meeting today.
“In the meeting today, the prospect of calling for a country-wide shutdown and lockdown of all highways also came under discussion,” he said.
Durrani said that the matter of tendering collective resignations also came under consideration during the meeting.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal on the occasion said government has damaged the economy. PTI’s Asad Umar, while reacting to the opposition’s presser, reiterated that
the prime minister’s resignation is out of question.
“They came into the field thinking that government’s favour has taken a nose-dive,” said Umar.
