KURRAM: The Pak-Afghan war once again flared up on Tuesday after forces of the occupying Afghan Taliban regime carried out unprovoked firing inside Pakistan’s borders near the Shorko area of Kurram district, media reported.
Security officials confirmed that Pakistani troops responded swiftly and forcefully, delivering a decisive counterstrike against the attackers. The latest exchange marks a dangerous new escalation in the Pak-Afghan war, which had largely subsided in recent months.
According to reports, fitna al-khawarij elements and Taliban fighters jointly targeted Pakistani border posts, prompting a two-hour-long gun battle. The Pakistan Army’s retaliatory fire inflicted heavy losses on Taliban positions, with several posts set ablaze and one tank reportedly destroyed.
Sources said the Pak-Afghan war front in the Shorko sector briefly reignited before calm was restored, though tensions remain high along the volatile border. Multiple border-side villages were evacuated for civilian safety as the firefight intensified.
Military officials stated that while the situation has now stabilized, Pakistan remains on high alert amid fears of renewed aggression from across the border — underscoring that the Pak-Afghan war remains a continuing challenge for regional stability.
Hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated sharply after Taliban and allied militants attacked Pakistani border posts overnight on October 11–12, 2025. The Pakistan Army launched a strong counteroffensive, killing scores of attackers and capturing multiple positions.
According to ISPR, the Afghan Taliban and the Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khawarij launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistan, along the Pak-Afghan border. The cowardly action, which included fire and few physical raids, was aimed at destabilizing the border areas to facilitate terrorism, furthering FAK’s nefarious designs.
Exercising the right of self-defence, the alert Armed Forces of Pakistan repelled the assault decisively all along the border and inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban Forces and affiliated Khwarjis.
Precision fires and strikes, as well as physical raids were directed against Taliban camps and posts, terrorist training facilities and support networks operating from Afghan territory, including elements linked to Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), Fitna al Hindustan (FAH) and ISKP/ Daesh. All possible measures were taken to avoid collateral damage and to protect civilian lives. –Agencies
