GWADAR: The GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital in Gwadar is taking significant steps to improve maternal and child health by combining quality healthcare with community outreach through social media. As part of its initiative to educate women about safe pregnancy and overall health, the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department has launched a new awareness segment titled “Gynaec Talks,” media reported.
The program aims to guide women in simple Urdu on how to recognize health issues during pregnancy and adopt healthy practices for both themselves and their babies. Dr. Shabana Rehman, Senior Registrar of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the hospital, hosted Gynaec Talks #2, focusing on high blood pressure during pregnancy, which she described as a common but preventable risk for mothers.
She emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs such as persistent headaches, nausea, swelling, or shortness of breath, and urged women to seek medical advice promptly. Dr. Rehman also highlighted the importance of regular checkups, which are essential to safeguarding the health of both mother and baby. She encouraged women to eat balanced meals, avoid excessive salt and oily food, and stay active during pregnancy.
Earlier, on August 15, Dr. Mah Rukh Aslam, another Senior Registrar, addressed anemia during pregnancy in Gynaec Talks #1. She discussed the importance of consuming nutritious foods like meat, vegetables, eggs, beetroot, liver, and dates, and advised expecting mothers to schedule at least three checkups during their pregnancy: in the early, middle, and later stages, to ensure a healthy outcome for both mother and child.
According to data shared by the hospital, in September 2025, GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital treated over 26,000 patients, including 2,590 gynecology and obstetrics cases, and performed 265 deliveries. Additionally, data analyzed by media revealed that between August 2024 and September 2025, a total of 36,661 women visited the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, where 2,866 successful childbirths were carried out.
