ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has formally approved export of embryos, ova and frozen semen of buffaloes to China during an official signature ceremony held between the Ministry of National Food Security and Research Pakistan and China’s Royal Group on June 9.
Royal Group has already established “Royal Cell Biotechnology Company (Pakistan)” in Lahore after getting it registered in the Animal Quarantine Department of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
Dr. Qaiser Shahzad, Program Manager of Royal Cell Biotechnology Company (Pakistan), the company has already fulfilled all requirements of the Chinese government.
On a trial basis, previously Pakistan exported 10,000 embryos valued at $2 million to China.
Over the next decade, Dr. Qaiser Shahzad declared China intends to import at least 300,000 buffalo embryos from Pakistan.
Given the growing demand for buffalo milk in China and the popularity of Pakistani buffaloes for their milk quality and production volume, China intends to further enhance Pakistan’s superior buffalo breed through its advance technology, he explained. –Agencies
