New York: Pakistan and Norway, while appreciating 75 years of their friendship, have agreed to work towards enhancement of bilateral cooperation.
The understanding to the effect reached during a meeting between caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt on the margins of the 78th UN General Assembly Session in New York.
The two sides expressed satisfaction on the exchange of ministerial visits between both countries during first half of 2023 and emphasised on increasing volume of exchange of visits and regular interactions to give further impetus to the momentum of existing relations between the two countries.
Besides reviewing bilateral cooperation in various fields, the two foreign ministers discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern including risks to global peace, and agreed on importance of multilateralism and rule-based approach to address regional and global challenges.
On the other hand, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen met in New York on the sidelines of the 78 session of the UN General Assembly and agreed to implement the Green Framework Engagement agreement through joint action plan.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the growing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Denmark, in the wake of recent ministerial-level interactions and in the context of the European Union. He also thanked the Danish government for their support for the flood victims. Besides bilateral subjects, regional and international developments also came under discussion.
Highlighting the rise of Islamophobia in Europe, Foreign Minister Jilani welcomed the decision by the Government of Denmark to propose a bill that would outlaw the burning of the Holy Quran and other Holy books. –Agencies
