Islamabad: Pakistan’s death toll has risen to 1,346 after 63 fatalities were confirmed in the last 24 hours in Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad collectively the highest single-day death toll so far.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not reported their daily fatalities from the virus yet. Both Punjab and Sindh reported their highest single-day death tolls at 29 and 31, respectively.
The previous record for most deaths in a day was reported on May 21 when 57 fatalities were confirmed and before that on May 7 when 48 fatalities were recorded.
Meanwhile, 31 more patients died due to novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours – the highest death toll recorded in a day thus far, according to Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.
In a statement issued from CM House, he disclosed the number of people who succumbed to the deadly disease thus far has jumped to 427 after 31 more fatalities.
As many as 804 new cases of coronavirus were reported over the previous 24 hours.
3,316 tests were conducted, of which 804 came back positive, taking the province’s total to 26,113, CM Murad said, adding 1,563 more people recuperated from the virus and discharged to their respective homes.
The total number of coronavirus patients under treatment in Sindh stands at 12,936, of whom 12,116 are at home isolation, 126 being kept at isolation centres, and 908 patients at various hospitals across the province, Murad Ali Shah said.
He said 304 patients are in critical condition, of them 52 are on ventilators.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 13 more COVID-19 deaths on Friday as the number of people that succumbed to the the virus reached 445 in the province.
According to spokesperson of KP health department, a total of 225 new cases of coronavirus were reported during the last 24 hours, making the total count of the infected people in the province 9067.
2,731 patients infected with the virus have thus far recovered from the ailment including 38 during the last 24 hours.
The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases and fatalities in the country has soared to 64,028 and 1,317 respectively, according to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
As many as 54 people died of complications related to the virus over the past 24 hours while 2,636 new infections surfaced in the country, taking the nationwide tally to 64,028.
11,931 coronavirus tests were conducted during the last twenty-four hours.
While, 927 new coronavirus cases have emerged in Punjab, taking the total number of infections across the province to 22,964, according to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department.
A spokesperson for the department said 29 more deaths were reported, taking the total number of fatalities to 410.
The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 6,338 while a total of 223,074 tests have been conducted in the province (Punjab) so far, the department said.
Of the new infections, 428 were detected in Lahore, pushing the tally of cases in the provincial capital to 10,329.

25,309 in Sindh, 8,842 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,928 in Balochistan, 2,100 in Islamabad, 658 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 227 in Azad Kashmir.

Moreover, Balochistan has reported 471 new coronavirus cases and five more deaths during the past 48 hours, according to data from the provincial health department.
With the new cases, Balochistan’s tally has crossed 4,000 while the total death toll is 46. In today’s situation report, the provincial health department said it was revising its policies to detect underreported deaths.
“Due to an increase in local transmission and a [lax attitude] in following prevention protocols, the mortality [rate is] increasing. Total deaths are 76 including confirmed (46) and probable (30),” the report said.
