Pakistan wants enhanced ties with UAE, says FM

-Discusses ways to boost bilateral ties with UAE’s President, Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai on Thursday.
The Foreign Minister conveyed warm regards of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, who is also the Ruler of Dubai. The Prime Minister of the UAE warmly reciprocated the sentiments, Foreign Office said in a press statement issued here.
Foreign Minister Qureshi exchanged views with the Prime Minister of UAE on a range of issues of mutual interest. He discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two brotherly countries, possibilities of enhancing bilateral trade relations and promoting investment, in particular in the field of agriculture.
The Foreign Minister also discussed matters pertaining to the welfare of Pakistani Diaspora in the UAE.
He requested Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to encourage the UAE’s business community to explore immense investment opportunities in Pakistan. Wishing Dubai Expo 2020 a resounding success, Foreign Minister Qureshi expressed gratitude to the UAE government in enabling Pakistan to participate effectively in the event.
Pakistan and the UAE have close and historic fraternal ties. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening and augmenting existing strong bilateral relations with the UAE.
Earlier, Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday arrived in Dubai on a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Pakistan’s Consul General in Dubai Ahmed Amjad Ali, senior officers of the embassy, and senior officials from the UAE ministry of Foreign Affairs received the FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Dubai International Airport. During the visit, the foreign minister will hold discussions with the UAE leadership on all areas of mutual interest, including regional and global issues.
He will also exchange views on bilateral cooperation, in a particular trade, investment and the welfare of the Pakistani diaspora.
This visit of FM Qureshi is a continuity of promotion of contacts between the two countries at higher level.Pakistan and the UAE enjoy historic fraternal relations, rooted firmly in shared history, common faith, values and mutual respect. High-level visits are an important feature, which not only exhibit cordial ties between the two countries but also accord the leadership an opportunity to give further impetus to strengthening bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues.
Back in October, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with his United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
