NANJING: Pakistani students studying in China proudly presented their country’s natural wonders and architectural treasures at an international youth exchange event held in Nanjing on August 9 in anticipation of China’s National Ecology Day on August 15.
The gathering, themed “Through Books: Dialogue on Ecological Protection and Urban Development”, brought together over 50 young participants from Pakistan, China, Cameroon, Nepal and Morocco for meaningful cultural and environmental discussions.
The event’s Pakistani representatives, Faria Rashid and Manahil Aftab from Nanjing Tech University, delivered standout presentations that beautifully connected historical heritage with contemporary environmental awareness. Faria Rashid, hailing from Lahore, offered detailed introductions to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the historic Lahore Fort and the stunning Shalimar Gardens. She shared fascinating insights about their Mughal-era history while extending warm invitations for international friends to experience Pakistan’s unique cultural charm firsthand.
Manahil Aftab, originally from the northern region of Pakistan, captivated the audience with vivid descriptions and images of the breathtaking Hunza and Skardu valleys.
Her presentation highlighted the country’s dedication to preserving these natural wonders while promoting sustainable tourism practices.
These Pakistani student presentations formed part of a rich cultural exchange that also featured seven Chinese primary school students sharing their country’s ecological and urban development achievements.
The Chinese students highlighted various accomplishments including wildlife protection efforts at Dafeng Milu (elk) Nature Reserve in Yancheng city, Jiangsu province, the architectural marvel of Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower, cultural heritage along the Grand Canal in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu province, the natural wonders of Wudalianchi’s volcanic lakes and urban innovation at Qingdao SCO Demonstration Area.
The event reached its powerful conclusion as participants joined together to recite a bilingual “Youth Initiative for Ecological Protection and Sustainable Urban Development”.  The collective pledge calls for global cooperation on environmental protection, the preservation of cultural heritage and the adoption of low-carbon lifestyles.
