Shenzhen: “Since 2019 – 2020, our students have excelled in Huawei ICT Middle-East (ME) and Global Finals. Last year, they secured first and second on the Middle East stage. It is a privilege and honor to represent Pakistan in Huawei ICT Competition 2021 and Global Final happening in June 2022,” ME Regional Winner and Pakistani team instructor Dr. Faheem Yar Khuhawar said in a statement. He is full of confidence in the Pakistani team this year.
The Global Finals of the Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022, under the theme of “I. C. The Future Foreseeable” and “I. C. The Future You at the Center” is set to take place tomorrow and will last until 19 June. The competition, to be held in Shenzhen and online, consists of the opening ceremony, launching conference, closing ceremony, practice competition, and innovation competition. The practice competition focuses on the participants’ knowledge and skills. It comprises the written exam and the lab exam, and the ranking will be based on the score.
The innovation competition focuses on the comprehensive capabilities of the participants. Participants are required to design works or solutions with commercial and social benefits using new ICT such as AI, IoT, big data, and Cloud. This marks the sixth iteration of the Huawei ICT Global Competition in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The competition is an annual initiative designed to nurture global ICT talent. The competition has always been well received in Pakistan as it promotes innovation and creativity while serving as a link between the classroom and the professional workplace. While nurturing the talents of university students in Pakistan, it also contributes to enhancing national ICT competitiveness and digital transformation.
“One of Huawei’s most prestigious programs to cultivate local ICT talent and sow its investment in the country’s potential has been an annual international ICT competition that allows the winners of the domestic chapter of the competition to travel to China to compete in the final for a grand prize of US $ 20,000. In the upcoming Global finals from 17-22 June 2022, Bhagchand is set to take the global stage along with his esteemed teammates, aiming to win at that level as well,” highlighted Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director of Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET.
Four Pakistani teams are qualified for the Global Finals.
Two are from 2021-2022 Regional finals winners: Sateesh Kumar, Iqra Fatima, and Bhagchand Meghwar along with their instructor Dr. Faheem Yar Khuhawar; and Hafiz Rizwan, Adnan Ali, and Mukhtar Memon, along with their instructor. They will be participating in the practice competition. These students hail from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Islamiya University Bahawalpur and UET Lahore. –Agencies
In the Innovation Competition, two further teams from Pakistan have been nominated this year. Osman Ahsan Sheikh, Muhammad Abdullah Ahsan Sheikh, Aqsa Amir and their instructor Merai Syed represent the team ‘Homevism’, comprised of students from the National Incubation Center, NUST. The second team from LUMS consists of Umer Farooq, Tabish Rafiq, Areej Ahmed and their instructor Muhammad Saeed from National Incubation Center, LUMS.
