ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has summoned a joint Session of the National Assembly and Senate on the advice of the Prime Minister on Thursday (today) for crucial legislation on electoral reforms.
The session was summoned under the presidential prerogative that is granted by Article 54(1) of the Constitution.
In a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, the ministers approved the Election Amendment Bill 2022. It is expected to be presented in the parliament for voting in Thursday’s session.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will launch a pilot project for overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes in by-elections,” read a statement issued after the Cabinet meeting.
A report comprising results of the project will be presented in the parliament and the lawmakers will decide whether the voting procedure for overseas Pakistanis is practical.
Other important legislation is also on the agenda in the joint session of the parliament.
