Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Cheif Executive Wasim Khan has stated that the board will soon look for a possible window to host the Afghanistan cricket team.
Prime Minister Imran Khan invited the Afghanistan cricket team to tour Pakistan in the near future on his maiden visit to the country’s capital Kabul on November 19.
However, PCB CEO emphasized that the national team’s future tour programs are quite tight and if the tour is not possible in 2021, they will try to find a window in 2022. “It’s a great development that the Prime Minister has passed the invitation to Afghanistan. We will soon initiate talks with their cricket board and look to finalize the home series in the next 12 months or so,” said Wasim Khan. “It is important to lift and develop Afghanistan for South Asia’s cricket as they are now the fifth Test-playing nation in the region,” he added.
He further said that the expenses have risen due to COVID-19 but the PCB’s aim is to invest more for the betterment of the country’s economy. “If the investment is benefiting the national economy, then we will continue to contribute, the increase in expenditure should be taken in a positive way, sports activities have a positive impact on the national economy,” Wasim added. “Experts in the hotel industry say that we have secured 5,000 jobs, cricket players and related people are staying in 5 and 4-star hotels, flight and travel have also benefited the relevant sectors,” he maintained. – PNP
