PEC Chairman meets Chief Secretary Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Engr. Waseem Nazir called on Chief Secretary Sindh, Syed Asif Haider Shah to review progress on key reforms aimed at strengthening the engineering profession and enhancing service delivery across the province.
During the meeting, the PEC Chairman briefed the Chief Secretary on the council’s ongoing initiatives, particularly the Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Programme designed to create a skilled, industry-ready workforce. He highlighted that the programme has been gaining traction nationwide and stressed the need for provincial-level support to ensure wider opportunities for young engineers in Sindh. The Chief Secretary lauded PEC’s efforts to boost engineering standards and assured the government’s full cooperation in facilitating the GET Programme’s implementation across the province, said a news release.
The discussion also touched upon the long-pending matter of Technical Allowance for engineers working in Sindh. Syed Asif Haider Shah assured that the provincial government would review the issue on priority to ensure a timely and equitable resolution.
Expressing concern over reports of malpractice and quality lapses by a small segment within the profession, the Chief Secretary called for robust regulatory oversight.
He underscored that the credibility and integrity of the engineering sector must be safeguarded through strict compliance and accountability measures.
Both sides agreed to continue close coordination to elevate engineering services, strengthen regulatory mechanisms, and support initiatives aimed at uplifting the engineering profession in Sindh.
