ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has demanded the government to consider productively the demands of medical students and young doctors and resolve all issues including National Licensing Exam (NLE) and NMDCAT through dialogue. Use of force is absolutely uncalled for act on behalf of the government to enforce the decisions against ground facts related to the health sector.
PIMA condemns the use of coercive measures by police against medical students and young doctors in Islamabad. In joint statement issued on Wednesday, the Central President of PIMA Prof. Dr. Khubaib Shahid and General Secretary Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir said that the current government is imposing arbitrary decisions by issuing ordinances, causing unrest and anxiety among stakeholders of the medical profession.
He said, for the past several months, medical students and young doctors have been protesting across the country, but the government is not ready to address their genuine concerns. The government should reconsider its policy towards such sensitive issues. These issues can only be resolved through dialogue, instead of using police and state power. PIMA calls for inclusive democratic ways for decisions which should be taken by consensus among all stakeholders of the health sector.
