ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriati (PTI-N), Akhtar Iqbal Dar, announced in a press confer-ence that a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the purchase of expensive electricity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Akhtar called on prominent figures like Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Mustafa Kamal, and Gohar Ejaz to support the petition, condemning the IPP agreements as harmful actions that are depleting Pakistan’s resources.
Dar appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa to expedite the hearing of this peti-tion, emphasizing that it is a matter of public interest and fundamental human rights. He also demanded an immediate injunction on the capacity payments being made to the IPPs.
Criticizing the government, Dar accused officials of guaranteeing and benefiting from these deals while enjoying free utilities.
He called for the end of free electricity, gas, and petrol for government officials and insisted that all IPP owners be held accountable, with the embezzled funds returned to the national treasury. –Agencies
