PM directs to assess rain damages across country

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman to assess the damages caused by recent rains in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that the relief activities could be accelerated and a joint strategy could be prepared to compensate for the losses.
Presiding over a meeting of National Coordination Committee for Floods in Islamabad today, PM Imran stressed coordination between the federal and provincial governments to deal with the challenges posed by the climate change. The prime minister emphasized the need for more coordination among all federal and provincial institutions to cope with the challenge.
Earlier on September 5, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced ‘historic’ Rs1100 billion financial package for the execution of a transformation plan meant to address the city’s issues and developmental requirements.
Briefing media about the Karachi package here at Governor House, the Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that federal government was fully aware of the problems being faced by people of Karachi and PTI government had decided to resolve all pending issues of the metropolis.
“One year & three-year plans for Karachi’s transformation have been devised as we’ve decided to resolve issues of Karachi on a permanent basis,” he had said and added that the Provincial Coordination Implementation Committee (PCIC) had been formed which will monitor the implementation of Karachi Package.
Meanwhile, Australian iron ore company Fortescue Metals Group’s Chairman Andrew Forrest on Monday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and expressed keen interest to invest in renewable energy sector and green industry in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Andrew Forrest expressed the hope that the investment by Fortescue Group will result in creation of employment opportunities for the local community and introduction of new technology solutions for a host of industries.
PM Imran Khan appreciated the interest of Fortescue Group in Pakistan and assured all possible facilitation in undertaking business ventures in the country. He highlighted economic recovery of the country in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic and investment friendly policies being pursued by the present government. The prime minister underscored the government’s strategy to contain spread of virus through smart lockdowns and simultaneously reaching out to the millions of poor through government’s flagship Ehsaas Program.
Earlier on August 31, a delegation of American Business Council of Pakistan had called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and expressed their desire to improve their investments in the country. The delegation had lauded the government’s policies to facilitate the business community in the country and ease of doing measures. The members of the group had also briefed the prime minister regarding investments made by different companies in the American Business Council.
Moreover, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has said that the situation of Karachi worsened due to political negligence. PM Khan was taking to Parliamentary Adviser, Dr Babar Awan, who called on him at his office in Islamabad, today. The meeting discussed the Karachi Transformation Plan and other parliamentary issues including Financial Action Tas Force (FATF) related legislation.
On Karachi’s plight, the premier said that development of the metropolis is on the agenda of the federal government and added that he will provide funds for the uplift of the city. Babar Awan appreciated PM’s resolve for addressing the basic issues of the people living in Karachi.
On the occasion, the PM reiterated his resolve for early legislation over FATF related bills. The premier was briefed about the sessions of the National Assembly and Senate.
