ISLAMABAD: In a speech to parliament, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday Pakistan will get out of FATF grey list like it fought COVID-19 pandemic successfully when compared with India or Europe. While congratulating the allies and PTI parliamentarians for making passage of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) related bills successful in the joint sitting of parliament, PM Imran Khan said: “Today is the historic day as a member of parliaments and house proved that they stand with Pakistan.”
The prime minister said that he was confident opposition will support in FATF-related bills, but his all doubts against opposition parties proved correct as they don’t want to see Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.
He accused the opposition of sabotaging the government’s efforts to exit the FATF grey list. “The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government hold several sittings with opposition to get out of FATF, but their behaviour was non-serious and today’s joint sitting has proved that Pakistan’s interest and opposition leaders cannot move together.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting on Wednesday with party leaders and allies to discuss the plan to proceed with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) related legislation. PM summoned the meeting with parliamentary leaders of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and those of allied parties to assemble a moot to mull over FATF-linked legislation progress. He said the bill is not for himself but it was in countries best interests.
He directed all the leaders to ensure their presence in the joint parliament session to get the bills approved.
The meeting also debated the issues of individual constituencies and the PM reassured them that he is well aware of the problems people are facing.
