HARIPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday has inaugurated Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute in Haripur for Applied Sciences and Technology.
The institution has been established with the collaboration of Austria for promoting the education of artificial intelligence (AI) and engineering. While addressing the inauguration ceremony, PM Imran Khan said that he wanted to spend money recovered from corrupt persons on the education sector. The federal government is willing to utilise resources on promoting education in the country, he added.
The premier urged for choosing a path to transform Pakistanis into a great nation and Allah Almighty will definitely gives success to those honestly pursuing a target. He said that Pakistanis are not willing to become slaves and wanting to make their own way. Communism is disastrous for the nation and the mental barrier for the slavery of the West should be broken. Imran Khan said that Pakistan has capabilities to advance into a development phase by changing the way of thinking. It is the need of time for stepping forward in the field of science and technology for opening a new era of development in Pakistan, he said.
He thanked China and Austria for assisting the authorities in Pakistan as the establishment of the institute was an important project of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.
Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday warned the world that as ice at poles melted fast and temperatures rose globally, any negligence towards the climate change could put the future generations in danger.
“If the world does not take notice now, I am afraid we will be endangering our future generations,”the prime minister said in a video statement at the fourth Austrian World Summit held in capital Vienna. The prime minister, on the invitation of Arnold Schwarzenegger, former California governor and actor, shared his vision about conserving biodiversity and the steps taken by Pakistan to fight the climate change.
Imran Khan said some 20 years ago, the topic of climate change was taken with skepticism, however, today it had become a harsh reality. He mentioned the ‘cruel face’ of climate change for the world in shape of record temperatures in Siberia, ice-melting on poles, rising temperatures in Europe, unprecedented fires ravaging Australia, cyclones and hurricanes.
He said Pakistan realized about a decade ago that the glaciers that flew to its rivers and ultimately fed the population, were melting at a much faster pace.
He recalled that his political party when came to power some seven years ago in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province, set and achieved the target of planting one billion trees there.
On assuming power at the Centre, he said, the target was now to plant 10 billion for a green Pakistan. He urged the world to collaborate and join hands to fight the climate change. “It is time for the world to take action against climate change as a united goal,” he said.
Others world leaders, who addressed the event, included Federal President Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Caputová, President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanovic, Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, Former United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Founder Austrian World Summit Arnold Schwarzenegger. Those, who spoke through video statement, included Prince of Wales Charles, Prime Minister of Spain and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres.
The Austrian World Summit in four years has become the largest environmental gathering in the world, providing a platform for global decision-makers committed to preserving a healthy planet and de-carbonizing the economy by 2050.
