GILGIT: In a remarkable display of commitment to the local community, POWERCHINA, the contractor of the Diamer Basha Dam Project (DBDP), has announced the creation of 122 new job opportunities right at the DBDP site.
This latest development not only underscores POWERCHINA’s dedication to the project but also promises to bolster employment prospects for the local population, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.
In a recent statement issued on Monday evening, POWERCHINA expressed a strong interest in recruiting a talented team of professionals.
Specifically, they are on the lookout for 30 skilled carpenters, 20 proficient welders, 21 experienced masons, 25 dedicated laborers, 15 adept drillers, nine skilled electricians, and two capable drivers to join their ranks.
This commitment to bolstering the project with a diverse set of skills is set to create a dynamic and thriving work environment.
For the majority of these roles, POWERCHINA is seeking seasoned construction professionals who are ready for long-term commitment.
When it comes to drivers, a minimum of three years of experience is an absolute requirement.
As for the laborers, robust physical health is essential, and they should be well-prepared for manual labor tasks and should fall within the age range of 20 to 45.
In May 2023, POWERCHINA demonstrated its commitment to nurturing local talent by extending permanent job offers to five promising local engineers who had not only completed but excelled during their internships at the DBDP site.
In April 2023, POWERCHINA created 190 job opportunities at DBDP for the local communities. Similarly, in December 2022, POWERCHINA took another significant step by offering jobs to 208 skilled and technical professionals directly at the project sites.
POWERCHINA has been actively investing in enhancing the skills of its local employees through skill development programs.
This ongoing commitment to both employment and skill enhancement exemplifies POWERCHINA’s dedication to the community and the DBDP project’s success.
The DBDP is a mega project that will generate 4500MW of cheap energy, with a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of land. –INP
