The top Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership has decided to back Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates on two vacated Senate seats from Punjab in the upcoming by-election.
The seats fell vacant after Sadia Abbasi, sister of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and PML-N leader Haroon Akhtar Khan were disqualified for possessing dual nationalities.
Senate elections to be held on Nov 15
The decision was taken after consultation between PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the party’s parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly, Hassan Murtaza, media reported.
Contacts between the two opposition parties had swelled up in the recent past to give the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a tough time and protect the opposition’s vote from getting divided in the November 15 by-polls.
According to Murtaza, the party’s lawmakers will vote for PML-N candidates to defeat the ‘fascist party’ that cannot be supported at any cost.
