ISLAMABAD: Rahbar Committee Convener Akram Durrani said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan will have to resign.
In a statement, Durrani said that the committee had demanded the resignation of the prime minister and they would not go back without it.
“We asked for the prime minister’s resignation. Won’t go back without it,” he said.
Durrani said that he had neither contacted Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani nor Defence Minister Pervez Khattak. He said that the two had contacted him instead.
He also gave the Rahbar Committee’s message to the government to not create any hurdles for participants of the march.
“The leadership will not meet the government without the Rahbar Committee,” he said. “Even JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will not meet Pervaiz Elahi.”
The JUI-F has announced a long march against the government which would begin from October 27 and would culminate in a protest on October 31 in Islamabad.
Fazl has blamed Prime Minister Khan for the economic problems of the country and has asked him to go home. Prime Minister Khan and his cabinet members, on the other hand, have warned the marchers that strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands.
Prime Minister Khan has claimed that Fazl was concerned with the madressah reforms that the government was about to undertake. Government representatives have cautioned the JUI-F against using madressah students for their long march.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday decided to fully participate in the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Azadi March.
The decision was taken in a meeting attended by the PML-N’s national and provincial assembly members and ticket holders and assigned tasks.
The PML-N leaders have been directed to participate in October 31 rally in Islamabad and advised to avoid arrests in case of crackdown.
The party leaders have also been advised to create Twitter and Facebook accounts. PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that all party leaders would remain in contact through social media accounts. The meeting also briefed the parliamentary and organizational leadership regarding the health of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, saying the government committed criminal negligence regarding the party supremo’s health.
PML-N’s senior leaders including Raja Zafarul Haq, Ahsan Iqbal, Javed Hashmi and Ayaz Sadiq will also visit hospital to inquire about the health of Nawaz Sharif.
