PSL 5 knockout round to be rescheduled, confirms Wasim

Lahore: The CEO of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wasim Khan said that they will try to find out a window later in the year to complete the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 5.
While talking to the media, Khan assured safety was their first priority and they postponed the event after a player showed symptoms of COVID-19. “We have immediately taken the decision to postpone PSL 5 knockout stage after a player, who had left Pakistan a few days ago, showed symptoms of COVID-19. The decision is for the betterment of every individual who was involved in the league,” he said.
“Let me make one thing clear, we haven’t canceled the league, it is postponed. We will try to reschedule the PSL 5 knockout stage later in the year if possible. Once the situation gets better, we will plan to complete the league,” he added.
The CEO highlighted the role of PCB in making it possible to let the event continue successfully. “The PCB believes it has made the right decisions in the lead up to the postponement of the tournament that included consulting the team owners, holding the matches behind closed doors, allowing the players the option to withdraw from the tournament, rescheduling of the matches and reducing the number of event days, he concluded.
PCB to conduct COVID-19 test of players, officials, broadcasters before they leave
Meanwhile, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to test all the players, officials and broadcasters for Coronavirus before they leave the country.
As a safety precaution, PCB has issued directives to all the people involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to undergo precautionary tests for coronavirus.
The cricket board will conduct screening within two hours at the local hotel and players are advised to wait for the results prior to undertaking any travel.
It must be noted here that the PCB has postponed the PSL 5 knockout stage for an indefinite period of time. PSL 5’s semi-final and final will be rescheduled once the situation gets better. Remember, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars are the semi-finalists teams of the event.
Sultans were scheduled to take on Zalmi in first semi-final whereas Kings were to play Qalandars for the first time at the knockout stage.
