QUETTA: A sedition case has been registered against PTI leaders following fiery speeches by the party leadership in a public gathering held in Balochistan’s Bostan area yesterday.
The complaint was lodged at the Levies police station, against PTI leaders including Shehryar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar, Haleem Adil Sheikh, and others. The FIR states that PTI leaders held a rally in the Bostan area without permission and incited participants to rebel against the state. The charges against the party leaders include incitement to rebellion and making hate speeches against the state and its institutions Party founder Imran Khan also faced sedition charges, following his arrest on May 9. A provision of sedition had been added to the challans of all the suspects, including Imran, believed to be involved in the May 9 mayhem.
SSP Investigation Lahore Dr Anoosh Masood Chaudhry said Section 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) had been imposed in all the cases including the primary one of the May 9 violence.
She added that the addition of the sedition provision was a substantial move in the ongoing legal proceedings. Police said that despite the absence of the PTI chairman at the scene of the May 9 violent events, there was evidence of Imran inciting his activists and planning a rebellion against the State.
Earlier, A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team on Friday finally interrogated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in connection with a controversial post shared on social media from his official account – the third time it visited the prison to question him. –Agencies
