Quake jolts Quetta

QUETTA: A 3.2-magnitude moderate earthquake struck Quetta and outskirts on Tuesday with no immediate reports of any causalities, media reported. Its shocks were felt in different areas of the province, which spread panic among residents and villagers who came out of their houses reciting Kalima Tayyaba. “The quake’s epicentre was 68 kilometres Northwest of Quetta with a depth of 18 km,” a met official told media. People were panicked after the quake. District administration concerned was collecting information on the earthquake. Rescue personnel have been put on alert to tackle any situation after the tremor.
It must be remembered that tremor jolts were also felt in several areas of country last week which include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Swat. Earlier last month, A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. The tremors were felt in Nowshera, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Malakand, Kohat, Buner, Swat, Swabi and Landi Kotal.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said the earthquake’s epicentre was located in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region and its depth was 220 kilometres. The quake had a longitude of 71.19 East and a latitude of 36.51 North. There have been no reports of loss of life or damage to property. In September, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Punjab, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tremors were felt in Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhang, Chiniot, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad. The quake was also felt in Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan. It had a longitude of 70.51 East and a latitude of 31.29 North.
