Rain, lightning wreak havoc in Neelum valley as 24 go missing in flash flood

NEELUM VALLEY: At least 24 people were reported missing in Neelum valley due to flash floods, rains and lightning.

At valley’s Lesswa area, cloud burst led to rain and thunder and flash floods caused wide-scale destruction, according to Director Operations State Disaster Management Authority Saeed-ur- Rehman.

The flash flood caused damage to 150 houses and one mosque also collapsed, with 24 people missing.

The missing people included 11 from a Tableeghi party and others were said to be locals.

The director operations said that shops were also damaged in the area and vehicles of several tourists also went missing due to flash flood.

The telecommunication system faced severe damage and teams have been dispatched to carry out rescue activities in the area.
