GWADAR: Balochistan’s coastal belt as well as Turbat and other areas on Tuesday received heavy rainfall with thunderstorm.
Rainwater entered in houses in southern part of the port city of Gwadar, while in shops at Airport Road and Ladies Market. Power supply also suspended as the rain lashed the city.
Coastal towns of Jiwani, Pasni and Ormara also received heavy rainfall.
Kohlu and outskirts also received sporadic rain. The mercury dropped below the freezing point amid rainfall with frosty winds.
Rainwater entered in populated areas in Turbat disrupting land link of the region with other parts.
Heavy rainfall damaged several houses in Dasht Bilingor, Dalesar, Balkross and Kashap.
The authorities have sent emergency teams for relief operations in Bilingor, officials said.
Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in various part of Kech as rainfall, which started at 9:00 in the night, was continued in the region without break.
The Met Office had on Monday predicted heavy rainfall with stormy winds in coastal belt of Makran and other parts of Balochistan.
The wet spell in the coastal belt of Balochistan will end by January 06, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in its weather report.
Provincial fisheries department had advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during the rough weather.
Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh on Tuesday issued alert over expected rainfall in most districts of the province.
PDMA Sindh has issued alert over likely rainfall from tonight till January 07 in Karachi, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Larkana, Jamshoro, Mairpur Khas, Dadu, Badin, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Kambar-Shahdadkot.
PDMA has advised concerned authorities to keep alert and take steps to meet any emergency situation.
The Met Office has clarified that the westerly wave expected to affect Karachi and other parts of Sindh till January 07.
The wet spell will bring the mercury down in the city as cold and frosty winds will blow from January 08.
The night time temperature in Karachi will likely to remain between 08-10 degree Celsius, while the daytime temperature will remain between 20-22 degree Celsius, the PMD said.
Two rain spells are expected to lash Karachi in January, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz earlier said. The weather official said that the downpour is expected in the metropolis from Tuesday night and will continue for three days.
“A moderate rain spell is also expected across the Sindh province,” he said.
Sardar Sarfaraz said that another rain spell- the third one of the winter- will also hit the metropolis in January.
The met office earlier shared that the mercury will drop in the city after January 08.
Parts of the country received light rain in the wee hours of Tuesday night.
Light showers in parts of Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Sheikhupura, Mian Channu, Dunyapur, Jacobabad and others turned the weather cold.
According to Met Office, a strong westerly wave has entered western and upper parts of the country, which may persist till Friday.
