ISLAMABAD: On the special directives of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Islamabad Police are continuing indiscriminate operations against criminal elements in the federal capital.
In this regard, the Islamabad Police Robbery and Dacoity Unit (RDU) carried out a major operation and arrested 16 members of organized gangs, including the gang leader, who were involved in snatching valuable mobile phones from citizens, tempering their IMEI numbers, and selling them in Afghanistan.
The police team recovered stolen mobile phones worth millions of rupees, two motorcycles used in the crimes, and five pistols along with ammunition from the possession of the arrested accused. The accused were wanted by Islamabad Police in 16 cases of street robbery, dacoity, and other serious crimes.
During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to committing multiple crimes in the twin cities and selling the snatched mobile phones in Afghanistan. Efforts are underway to arrest other facilitators and accomplices of the gangs.
