ISLAMABAD: Progress was made in the murder case of a Red Crescent female staffer in Islamabad as Police arrested her husband who allegedly committed the crime to keep the marriage a secret. The accused, Khalid bin Majeed, is also associated with the Red Crescent and works as it’s General Secretary. In this connection, Muhammad Tariq, the father of Kainat Tariq, who belonged to the Rawalakot area of Azad Kashmir, had got a case registered with the police after she was poisoned to death.
Nominating the accused, it is mentioned in the FIR that Khalid had secretly entered into nikah with the victim despite the fact that he was already married and a father of four. Tariq also claimed that the alleged murderer used to take away Rs25,000 from the monthly salary of his daughter who wanted to make their wedlock public against the wishes of Khalid. The FIR also says that quarrels were a routine matter and they had a fight on the previous day as well after which Kainat’s body was found in their H-8 office. Kainat was a student of MSc Economics at NUML (National University of Modern Languages) besides having a job at the Red Crescent. Her father also noted that the accused brought the body late at the hospital and also initially kept her mobile with him.
On the other hand, Senator Rehman Malik, who is the chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior, took notice of the matter and sought a report on the issue. Earlier, the NUML students had launched a campaign on Twitter to get justice for their colleague.
Cops given 3 weeks to catch absconder of triple murder
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday gave police four weeks to arrest the absconding accused in a triple murder case as the applicant – Umme Rubab Chandio – in Islamabad said she was facing serious threats from the landlords of Sindh. As a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the matter, Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mehar informed the apex court that they had provided substantial security to Umme Rubab.
Police had arrested one of the accused Zulfiqar Chandio and would be able to capture Murtaza Chandio soon, the provincial chief assured the court. With reference to the applicant’s statement that her life is in danger, the chief justice told her that they would summon the IGP again if something happened to her.
At this point, Umme Rubab said Zulfiqar – a fugitive – was arrested after a deal with landlords and added that the sitting MPA was a facilitator of the accused. Ordering the Hyderabad DIG to arrest Murtaza within four weeks, the three-member bench adjourned the hearing for a month. Later, Mehar avoided answering the questions but told the reporters outside the court building that they would issue a press release on the subject.
On the other hand, Umme Rubab, talking to media persons, expressed her satisfaction over the arrest of Zulfiqar but noted that the police’s failure to lodge an FIR against the facilitators reflected their partiality. About the Sindh police chief, she said he could say anything according to his liking and choice, adding that everyone knew that the landlords in Sindh were the facilitators of the accused.
Umme Rubab is fighting for justice against all social and political odds since January 17, 2018 when her father Mukhtiar Ahmed Khan, grandfather Raees Karamullah and paternal uncle Qabil Hussain were gunned down in an attack on their residence in Maher Town of Dadu district.
She says the killings were ordered by MPA Nawab Sardar Ahmed Chandio – the chieftain of Chandio tribe – and his brother Burhan Khan Chandio who is also a Sindh Assembly member. The motive behind the brutal killings is their resistance to feudalism and the brutal control by the chieftain. Two of accused – Ali Gohar Chandio and Sikandar Chandio – have been arrested earlier and are currently in prison.
