RAWALPINDI: Road safety for school going children is paramount in the 18-point welfare agenda directed by Chief Secretary Punjab, which is being implemented under the supervision of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Noorul Amin Mengal. Chalking out Zebra crossings outside government and private schools is underway from January 21, 2022 to April 18, 2020. A total of 5077 public schools and 7616 private schools have been identified across the division where zebra crossings are desperately needed so that young children are protected from accidents.
So far zebra crossings have been installed in 1737 public schools and 913 private schools. In these educational institutions 2234 teachers and staff in public schools while 1028 teachers and staff in private schools are being designated to perform this duty.
Noorul Amin Mengal said that it is important for the staff on duty to wear special uniform jackets so that the traffic passing by would be more aware of the presence of school children in the area. Sign Boards should also be installed for cautionary measures. He said that these duties should be performed in the morning and off time so that the children could cross the road safely.
While briefing the Commissioner Rawalpindi Division about the revenue and capital portion of the hospital, it was informed that the capital portion of the hospital is almost 95% complete. Since the hospital has been used by Corona patients for the last two years, the hospital will be given a quick maintenance and repair shot.
Later, Noorul Amin Mengal also visited the parking and waiting area outside the hospital and directed the municipal corporation to clear the hospital premises of any encroachments so that there would be no difficulty in the movement of patients.
