London: England cricket team captain Joe Root along with England women’s team captain Heather Knight is still following personalized fitness routine programs despite the coronavirus suspending all sporting events.
Last week, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a seven-week delay in the start of the new county championship season which comprises four-day first-class matches, which was due to start on April 12.
England returned back to from Sri Lanka and the tour comprising of two tests which had to be called off but the 29-year-old recently opened up about his training regime, despite him being in quarantine at the moment.
“While it has been good to get some downtime after our return from Sri Lanka, keeping my fitness up is really important so I can be at the top of my game when we get back on the field. I’m an active person anyway, with my young son keeping me busy, but having a structured plan will help me improve in certain areas,” said Root.
“We would obviously much rather be playing cricket right now, but this gives us an opportunity to recover from a demanding past 12 months and get our bodies in good shape for when matches resume,” he added. – Agencies
