ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid Friday emphasized the need for collective efforts to eradicate polio from Pakistan, terming it a shared national responsibility.
“Polio is a disease that we must fight together,” she said, noting that Pakistan reported 41 cases of polio in 2024. She recalled that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto launched Pakistan’s first anti-polio campaign in 1994, and a polio-free Pakistan was her dream.
In her message on World Polio Day, Senator Rubina Khalid stated that Pakistan remains among the two countries where polio transmission has not yet been eliminated. “It is our duty to make people aware that polio drops can save children from a lifetime of regret,” she stressed.
On the occasion of World Polio Day, she reaffirmed BISP’s commitment to continue supporting efforts against the disease. “Our mission is to make Pakistan polio-free,” she said, urging parents and guardians to ensure their children receive polio vaccinations.
She lauded the dedication of frontline workers and partner organizations engaged in the national polio eradication campaign. “Our efforts are crucial in ending this disease. On this day, we express solidarity with families affected by polio and pledge to stand with them,” she concluded.
