S. Africa beat Pakistan by 17 runs in Women’s T20 W’cup

Sydney: South Africa women’s team have defeated Pakistan women’s team by 17 runs to secure a semi-final spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
In a crucial fixture played at Spotless Stadium in Sydney, Pakistan couldn’t chase the required target of 137 and only managed to score 119/5 in 20 overs. All-rounder Aliya Riaz was the top-scorer as she made undefeated 32-ball 39 with the help of three fours and a six. Standing captain Javeria Khan was the other notable scorer, scoring 31 off 34 balls.
Pakistan lost three wickets in just eight runs as the scoreboard was three for 26. Javeria and Aliya rescued Pakistan but the skipper got run-out in the 11th over and the match went into the hands of proteas
Earlier, South Africa decided to bat first after winning the toss. Laura Wolvaardt scored an undefeated 53 from 36 balls, smashing eight fours and leading her side to a competitive total of 136 for six.
Medium-pacer Diana Baig again picked a wicket in the first over of the match, taking the wicket of Lizelle Lee for four runs. Later in the fourth over, she removed Dane Van Niekerk for three runs.
Marizanne Kapp batting at number three made a valuable contribution with the bat, scoring 32-ball 31 which included two fours and a six.
Diana was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2 for 19. Anam Amin, Nida Dar, Syeda Arooba Shah, Aiman Anwar all claimed a wicket each.
Pakistan won the first match against West Indies by eight wickets and lost to England by 42 runs. They will play the last match against Thailand at the same venue on Tuesday, March 3rd.
