Saudi crown prince, Greek PM discuss regional security, energy supplies

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed regional and international developments, maritime security and energy supplies during talks in Riyadh on Sunday, according to Saudi media.

A joint statement expressed concern over attacks on energy infrastructure. It stressed the need to protect international maritime corridors to ensure the safe, uninterrupted flow of energy to global markets, amid the widening Middle East conflict. The two sides also pledged closer defence and security cooperation to promote regional and global peace and stability.

Saudi Arabia highlighted the role of its East-West Pipeline in maintaining oil exports by providing an alternative route towards the Red Sea that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. The leaders also discussed a planned electricity interconnection linking Saudi Arabia to Europe through Greece.

Mitsotakis arrived in Riyadh with a delegation and was received by Saudi officials at King Khalid International Airport before holding official talks with the crown prince at Al-Yamamah Palace. The meeting also reviewed bilateral ties and opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, logistics, digital connectivity and technology.

The visit coincides with the centenary of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Greece. Bilateral trade reached about $1.7 billion in 2025, according to the joint statement. –Agencies
