ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan released its monthly performance report, highlighting significant progress in clearing the backlog of pending cases.
According to the data, the apex court disposed of 4,372 cases between October 28 and November 29, while 1,853 new cases were filed during the same period.
The statement attributed the progress to the tireless efforts of the Chief Justice and his fellow judges, emphasising that judicial reforms remain a top priority on the chief justice’s agenda.
The court’s announcement underscored its commitment to reducing delays in the justice delivery system and ensuring the swift resolution of cases.Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi called a meeting of the Judicial Commission on Dec 6 to deliberate on several key judicial appointments.
The agenda includes the proposed inclusion of Justice Shahid Bilal in the constitutional bench, a development prompted by the need to fill a vacancy created by the absence of Justice Ayesha Malik in cases involving special courts.
Moreover, the commission will review nominations for judicial appointments in the Peshawar High Court and Sindh High Court in the same meeting. Earlier, The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday suspended Journalist Matiullah Jan’s two-day physical remand ordered by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

Representing the journalist, lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha appeared alongside Advocate Riasat Ali Azad, President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association.
Advocate Azad highlighted that the FIR did not mention any transaction or purchase and included an affidavit from another journalist, emphasising that the case was based on fabricated allegations. –Agencies
