QUETTA: The Provincial Election Commission will complete the scrutiny of nomination papers for the local government elections second phase in 32 districts of Balochistan by 17th.
Officials told media that after completion of submission of nomination papers by the candidates for elections of specific seats of municipal committees, municipal corporations, and union councils the Returning Officers have started the process of scrutiny of nomination papers which will be completed by November 17. The ROs will allot election symbols to the candidates on November 28, while the polling will be held on December 14. Wednesday, November 15 was the last date for the withdrawal nomination papers for candidates in the first phase of local government polls in Hub and Lasbela districts, while election symbols will be allotted to the candidates on November 16 and polling will be held on December 11.
The final list of candidates and election symbols will be released on November 18 for the first phase elections of all the wards of Huramzai Municipal Committee of Pishin district, where the polling will be held on December 11. Thousands of candidates have been in the running for LG elections. Tuesday, the chief election commissioner had said the election commission wants to hold local body polls in Karachi at the earliest and suggested deploying personnel from Punjab for administering the polls.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami, Waseem Akhtar of MQM, Administrator Karachi and PPP leader Murtaza Wahab and IG Sindh were present at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the occasion.
