Sharea Faisal’s multistorey building’s fire put out

KARACHI: Authorities announced on Friday that a massive fire that erupted in a 12-storey building at Sharea Faisal was put out after hours of effort.

The fire engulfed about 15 offices inside the building with no reported casualties and dozens of people who were stuck in the building were rescued.

Initially, the fire department dispatched one fire engine, but more were sent keeping in view the intensity of the blaze. A total of three fire engines and a snorkel helped cover the fire by 11:20am and the cooling process is now under way.

Earlier, a massive fire ripped through a multistorey building near Nursery on Sharea Faisal, injuring one person and evacuating several others to safety. The blaze erupted in a billboard on top of the building, which subsequently engulfed the entire building. Thirteen fire tenders arrived at the scene to put out the Category III blaze in the building which is adjacent to a petrol pump.

Responding to information, SHO Inaam Junejo of Ferozeabad police station rushed to the spot with his staff and called the fire brigade and rescue services to reach there. Personnel from K-Electric and other utilities also arrived and disconnected the electricity and gas connections, and two snorkels joined in the efforts to extinguish the fire.

During the operation, people who were present inside the building were rescued, but one person suffered injuries after jumping from the first floor of the building.
