Sherry Rehman congratulates PPP candidates on Gilgit-Baltistan victory

ISLAMABAD: Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples  Party (PPP) and Senator Sherry Rehman has congratulated the successful PPP candidates and party workers on the party’s impressive performance in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
In a statement, Sherry Rehman paid tribute to First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their dynamic and effective election campaign, stating that their active public engagement and leadership played a significant role in the party’s success.
She said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had rejected the politics of hatred and division and instead voted for an agenda of development, democracy, and public service.
The election results reflect the continued support of the people for the democratic, progressive, and pro-people vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, she added.
Sherry Rehman further stated that the outcome also demonstrates public confidence in the democratic vision and political struggle of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
She reaffirmed that the PPP would work with renewed commitment to meet public expectations and promote the development and prosperity of Gilgit-Baltistan.
At the same time, the PPP leader expressed deep concern over reports of alleged manipulation and delays in election results in certain constituencies.
She said that reports regarding GBLA-16, GBLA-17, and GBLA-20, where results were allegedly delayed or differed from public expectations, raise serious questions about the transparency of the electoral process.
Sherry Rehman noted that allegations of irregularities are not only being raised by the PPP but have also been highlighted in media reports.
She added that unnecessary delays and ambiguity in constituencies where the PPP enjoyed clear public support are further increasing concerns.
“Any interference in the electoral process amounts to a violation of the democratic rights of the people and the sanctity of the vote,” she said.
She called upon the Election Commission to immediately announce the results of all pending constituencies in a transparent manner and take steps to restore public confidence.
She also urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take immediate notice of the situation and address all concerns related to the electoral process.
Sherry Rehman demanded that legal action be taken against any individuals found responsible for undermining public trust in the election process.
She emphasized that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have expressed their verdict through the ballot box and that their decision must be respected under all circumstances. –Agencies
