ISLAMABAD: The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) claimed 93 more lives in the country in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,712.

More than 1.3 million tests have been conducted in the country while 93,932 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment and 129,830 patients have recuperated from the disease.
92,306 cases have been detected in Sindh so far, 81,317 in Punjab, 27,843 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,766 in Balochistan, 13, 292 in Islamabad, 1,228 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 1,536 in Gilgit Baltistan.
The novel coronavirus has killed at least 527,241 people, according to a tally from official sources compiled by media. At least 11,145,640 cases of coronavirus have been registered in 196 countries and territories. Of these, at least 5,727,400 are now considered recovered.
The tallies, using data collected by reporters from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections. Many countries are testing only symptomatic or the most serious cases.
The United States is the worst-hit country with 129,584 deaths from 2,818,588 cases. At least 790,404 people have been declared recovered. 1,020 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Punjab in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the province to 81,371.
According to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, 27 more people died due to complications related to the virus, taking the death toll in the province to 1,871. Thus far, 44,671 patients have been cured of the disease in the province.
A total of 533,040 tests have been conducted in the province thus far.

According to district-wise breakdown of cases, Lahore has so far seen 41,448 infections, Nankana Sahib 311, Kasur 580, Shiekhupura 1038, Rawalpindi 6,288, Jhelum 357, Attock 389, Chakwal 210, Gujranwala 2862, Sialkot 1,987, Narowal 220, Gujrat 2,230, Hafizabad 511, Mandibahuddin 266, Multan 4,769, Khanewal 261, Vehari 486, and Faisalabad 5,151.
Chiniot has reported a total of 272 cases, Toba Tek Singh 571, Jhang 334, Rahim Yar Khan 1033, Sargodha 877, Mianwali 374, Khushab 189, Bhakkar 203, Bahawalnagar 379, Bahawalpur 1,263, Lodhran 205, DG Khan 1,118, Muzaffargarh 835, Rajanpur 161, Layyah 301, Sahiwal 620, Okara 277, and Pakpattan 162.
Sindh province on Sunday reported 2,222 case of the COVID-19 during the past 24-hours while 25 more patients died due to the infection, ARY NEWS reported quoting Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.
“We have performed 10,705 tests during the last 24 hours,” said the chief minister in a statement on a daily update of COVID-19 in the province. He said that the province reported an overall tally of 94,528 COVID-19 cases and 1,526 deaths from the infection. He said that 39,837 patients are currently treated for the virus in the province with 623 of them in critical condition and 74 on ventilators.
He said that 770 virus patients have recovered in the province during the past 24-hours on Sunday, bringing the tally of recuperated patients to 53,164. He said that Karachi that remains worst affected by the COVID-19 reported 770 more cases today. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said on Sunday that the government was pursuing a holistic strategy to combat Covid-19, with the support of citizens and paramedics.
During a visit to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, Dr Mirza lauded the efforts of healthcare workers and medical staff fighting on the frontline against the pandemic. The special assistant underscored that the government gradually eased the lockdown, but shifted its focus on the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to contain the spread of the virus.
He said the federal government made the best sovereign decisions in the interest of the masses with robust national coordination and decision-making mechanism.
The special assistnat maintained that the federal government established the National Command and Operation Centre which makes decisions in coordination with all the provinces.
Another doctor died of the coronavirus in Peshawar on Sunday, taking the number of COVID-19 fatalities among healthcare workers in Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP) to 17, as per the Provincial Doctors Association.
Dr Hidayatullah Wazir was undergoing treatment at the Hayatabad Medical Complex before he succumbed to the disease, said sources. He was laid to rest at a graveyard in his hometown of Azeem Qi, they said.
According to a report released by the National Emergency Operations Center, the number of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff infected with coronavirus across the country has reached 2,561, while at least 25 health workers have lost their lives fighting the pandemic.
Doctors’ associations and media have reported even higher numbers of Covid-19 cases and fatalities among healthcare workers. Numerous protests have also been held demanding the provision of personal protective equipments, protection, benefits, as well as improved working conditions as the pandemic adds strain to an already burdened healthcare system. Protesters were met with baton charge and arrests by the police in some cases and reportedly released later.
