Sindh raises minimum wage rate

KARACHI: The wages of workers employed in industries across Sindh have been increased. According to media, the Sindh government has made a significant decision for labourers, announcing a 15.62% increase in the wages of workers employed in the industrial sector. The Department of Labour and Human Resources has issued a notification regarding the wage increase for workers. According to the notification, wages have been increased for semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers in 50 industries. Under the new wage structure, the monthly salary for semi-skilled workers has been set at Rs. 38,280, for skilled workers at Rs. 45,910, and for highly skilled workers at Rs. 47,868.
Earlier last week the Sindh cabinet approved increasing the minimum wage of unskilled labourers in the province. In August, the Sindh government announced a new minimum monthly wage of Rs 37,000 for workers across the province. In a new welfare initiative, the Sindh Police, in partnership with the NPF, has announced plans to provide affordable housing plots and interest-free electric motorcycles for police personnel, up to the rank of inspector. –Agencies
