ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi held an important press conference at Rescue 15. DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq, SSP Investigations, SSP Operations and DSP CIA were also present on the occasion.
During the press conference, the IGP Islamabad said that a tragic incident occurred in the federal capital yesterday in which a 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousuf was murdered in her home.
Following the incident, seven different police teams were formed under the supervision of DIG Islamabad. These teams conducted a technical investigation, analyzing social media accounts and more than 300 call records. Footage from Safe City Islamabad and private cameras was also obtained.
The accused namely Umar Hayat was arrested from Faisalabad within 20 hours of the incident.
Additionally, the victim’s mobile phone and the murder weapon were also recovered from the accused possession.
The ruthless killer took the phone with him after the murder to destroy evidence. In order to apprehend the accused, raids were conducted at over 11 locations in three cities. The accused is a 22-year-old unemployed man who repeatedly attempted to contact the victim. Upon her refusal to respond, he committed the murder.
IGP Islamabad further stated that the murder of Sana Yousuf caused a wave of concern across Islamabad and the entire country.
The brutal killing of a young girl was a significant challenge for the police. There was immense pressure to arrest the accused and identifying him was a complex process.
The IGP Islamabad also emphasized that, just as Islamabad Police has successfully solved previous cases and ensured the arrest of culprits, this case was also resolved in a short time with the arrest of the murderer.
He added that a strong case will be built against the accused, ensuring a thorough investigation and collection of solid evidence so that the competent court awards him the appropriate punishment.
