Sydney: Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will miss the final ODI of the three-match series against South Africa to watch his wife, Alyssa Healy in action at the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Final.
Australia will take on South Africa tomorrow in Potchefstroom but the 30-year-old fast bowlers will return home to support Healy as she is part of the Australia squad that qualified for the final to face India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, March 8. “It’s a once in a lifetime chance for Mitch (Starc) to watch Alyssa in a home World Cup Final and so we were happy to allow him to return home to support his wife and be part of a fantastic moment,” Australia coach Justin Langer said.
“We have plenty of fast bowling options to consider in South Africa with Josh Hazlewood, Jhye Richardson and Kane Richardson all missed our previous match in Bloemfontein, and Mitch’s absence will offer one of them an opportunity to perform in Saturday’s match,” he added.
It must be noted that Australia have lost the three-match series as South Africa have won the first two matches.
