ISLAMABAD: Two flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from Islamabad to Gilgit returned to the federal capital on Saturday after strong crosswinds prevented the planes to continue their journey in Gilgit.
A PIA spokesperson said when flights PK-603 and PK-605 arrived near Gilgit Airport a 15-nautical-mile cross-wind was running at that time and landing in that cross-wind could have been very difficult. “Both flights returned to Islamabad,†the PIA spokesman added.
He said the third flight to Islamabad has also been canceled and all the three flights will now be rescheduled on Sunday. It may be mentioned here that the PIA on Friday reduced its fares for domestic flights. According to the spokesperson for the national flag carrier, the PIA cut down the fares for its flights operating from Karachi to Lahore and Islamabad.
After the decrease in fares, the ticket for a one-way trip for Islamabad and Lahore has been fixed at Rs7,879 with hand carry luggage only. The PIA ticket will be available for Rs8,543 with 35kg luggage. The PIA spokesperson said that this offer is for an indefinite period. He said that the PIA is operating four flights from Karachi to Islamabad and two flights from Karachi to Lahore on a daily basis.
