Super flood situation observed in three rivers simultaneously: Punjab PDMA

DM Monitoring

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has cautioned that the flood threat has not been completely averted as high flows continue in the rivers.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said Trimmu Headworks is under no immediate danger, while the flood wave has now moved downstream towards Multan’s Head Muhammad Wala.

He confirmed that Head Sidhnai is nearing its full capacity and breaching may become necessary to manage the water pressure. Kathia added that the timely breach at Head Qadirabad has helped reduce pressure on the lower districts.

According to the PDMA, Chenab waters are expected to reach Multan by tomorrow (Tuesday), where they will combine with Ravi’s flow. The flood surge that passed Shahdara has already reached Head Sidhnai.

Authorities may also breach the Mai Safoora Bund tonight, and around 20,000 to 24,000 residents in nearby areas have been evacuated as a precaution.

Kathia noted that a super flood situation is being observed in three rivers simultaneously, but stressed that difficult decisions already taken are now showing positive results.
