Supermoon to light up the sky on October 7: SUPARCO

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that the first supermoon of the season will be visible on the night of October 7.

According to SUPARCO, the supermoon will appear at 8:47 PM, rising from the east and setting in the west. It is expected to appear 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than a regular full moon.

The commission added that the planet Saturn will also be visible near the supermoon, positioned to the left of the Moon on October 6 and 7.

SUPARCO further stated that this is the first of several supermoons expected this year, with the brightest one anticipated in November.

Suparco has also indicated that two more supermoons will follow, one on November 5 and another on December 5. The brightest supermoon of the year is expected in November, when the moon will come as close as 221,817 miles (357,344 km) to Earth.

Skywatchers across Pakistan are expected to witness the rare celestial display, which will mark the beginning of an extraordinary lunar season for stargazers in 2025. –Agencies
