ISLAMABAD: A fire broke out at the Supreme Court of Pakistan building on Friday evening, media reported.
According to rescue officials, the fire broke out on the ground floor of the administrative block of the Supreme Court building. Fire brigade vehicles reached the Supreme Court after receiving information about the incident.
Smoke spread through the administrative block following the fire.
Sources said the fire was extinguished and that it had reportedly been caused by a short circuit. Smoke, however, remained inside the administrative block after the fire was brought under control.
According to sources, the fire broke out at 6:35 pm. The first fire brigade vehicle reached the site five minutes later, while rescue personnel brought the fire under control after around 35 minutes.
Sources said police initially stopped the fire brigade at the main gate due to the Supreme Court’s security SOPs.
The firefighters were allowed to enter the premises after clearance was given by the Supreme Court administration.
A fire brigade official was heard saying, “We are getting late because of them.”
Sources further said WAPDA personnel who arrived to investigate the cause of the fire were also stopped by police.
The incident took place on the ground floor of the Supreme Court’s administrative block, where smoke continued to remain after the fire was extinguished. –Agencies
